Custom Leather Cutting Blades
Die and rotary blades made to your drawing or sample for leather goods. HSS or carbide, to your edge and profile spec.
Leather cutting blades built to your spec
Our custom leather cutting blades are made to your exact profile, edge, and mounting. Whether you die-cut, click, or rotary-cut leather, we match the blade your line needs — and we can reverse engineer the blade from your worn sample if the drawing is gone.
Materials we cut from
- D2 / SKD11 — high-wear tool steel for long production runs.
- HSS — heat-resistant edges for higher surface speeds.
- Stainless — food- and pharma-grade lines.
- Solid carbide — maximum edge life on abrasive materials.
Why buyers switch their blades to HIBO
Free sample (you cover freight), a 24-hour quote, and a 30-day production lead — versus the 35–45 days most overseas suppliers quote.
Typical applications
Leather goods and footwear cutting, belt and strap slitting, upholstery and automotive leather, and synthetic leather converting. If your line cuts leather, we supply the industrial cutting blade for it.
What the geometry has to get right
Leather is cut by pressure, not by speed. The edge has to be thin and keen enough to enter the material cleanly, yet supported enough not to fold under the clamp. On clicker and die presses the blade works together with the press pad and the cutting board — a blade that is perfect on its own can still leave a ragged edge if the pad is worn.
On strap slitting the opposite problem appears: the material is soft and elastic, so a blade that is not truly sharp pushes the leather instead of parting it, and the cut edge stretches.
Where a leather blade fails
- Edge folds or rolls over. Too thin for the clamp pressure — go to a more supported bevel, not a keener one.
- Ragged cut from a blade that looks sharp. The pad or board under the material is worn.
- Cut edge stretched on strap slitting. The blade is dull enough to push rather than cut.
- Chipping on synthetic leather. Filler in the coating is abrasive — check the failure before changing the edge angle.
How we match an existing leather blade
Send the worn blade, or a sample of the finished cut. The cut tells us as much as the blade does: edge quality, whether the material was sheared or pressed, and how much it recovered after cutting. We send the drawing back for confirmation before production.
Leather blade questions
Can you make a blade for a clicker die?
Yes. Send the die profile or the worn blade; we match height, thickness and edge form.
Does a sharper angle always cut better?
No. Past a point a keener edge just folds under clamp pressure. The right angle is the thinnest one that survives your press.
